“Inspiration comes in many forms. I cannot remember exactly when it started, but the beauty of the world around me during my childhood inspired me to pick up a pencil and brush. To capture the mood and emotions of others or features of objects through my pencil has been my life-long passion.”
Born in Odisha, India, Sweta pursued her love of art by having visual arts in high school. After graduating with Philosophy honors, she worked towards an associate’s degree in fine arts from Santhanu’s Chitira Bidyalayam, India, as well as a second associate’s degree in fashion design from the National School of Design and Technology. During this time, in addition to pencil art, she also explored various other types of art, including nib painting, foil painting, cone painting, and Pattachitra painting using different mediums like oil color, watercolor, and acrylic color.
After marriage, Sweta moved to the US and settled around Chicago. While tackling the responsibility of motherhood, she advanced in her career by establishing an art school aimed at children. Her philosophy and motivation stem from her belief that it is the duty of a teacher to cater to all children, from those who show innate talent to those who are interested in putting in the work to learn. She believes that as an artist and a teacher, you have the unique ability to inspire kids…to help them become creators, critical thinkers, and decision-makers.
Art forms provide people with many benefits, from developing one’s hand-eye coordination to enhancing creativity and focus. These things also help kids come up with positive emotional responses to stressful situations and find healthy ways to cope with life.
